Held Monday, July 19

Funeral services for Mrs. L. Pauline McKinley, 82, of Plainfield, who died Friday, July 16 at the Waverly Municipal hospital, were held Monday, July 19 at the First Baptist church in Plainfield with the Rev. Tom Harlan officiating.

L. Pauline Roach was born November 4, 1899 in Plainfield, the daughter of Edwin and Addie (Farnsworth) Roach. She graduated from Plainfield high school, and then attended and graduated from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon. She taught school for several years and then returned to Plainfield to keep house for her father until his death in 1959.

February 11, 1962, she married Harold L. McKinley in Plainfield. The couple made their home in St. Ansgar. Following Mr. McKinley's death in 1973, Mrs. McKinley moved back to Plainfield; was a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Nashua; charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 472 in Plainfield and was a charter member of the Plainfield Women's club.

Mrs. McKinley is survived by three stepsons, Hal and Don McKinley of St. Ansgar and Keith McKinley of Osage; several step and great-step grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one stepson, Phil McKinley, and two brothers, Howard L. Roach and J. Robert Roach.

Burial was in Willow Lawn cemetery, Plainfield, with Rev. Harlan in charge of the committal services. Her family suggests that memorials be directed to either the First Baptist church or to the Plainfield Library.

Lela Pauline Roach was called Pauline throughout her life.

According to her niece, Virginia Roach Thieking, Pauline was married late in life to Harold McKinley and consequently never had children. Harold McKinley was a close acquaintance to Pauline's brother Howard Roach who introduced the couple.

The following obituary of Lela Pauline Roach was printed in her funeral brochure:

"Mrs. L. Pauline McKinley, 82, of Plainfield Iowa, died Friday morning, July 16, 1982, at the Waverly Municipal Hospital where she had been a patient since June 14.

"L. Pauline Roach was born on November 4, 1899, in Plainfield, the daughter of Edwin and Addie Farnsworth Roach. She graduated from Plainfield High School and then attended and graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Pauline taught school for several years and then returned to Plainfield to keep house for her father until his death in 1959. On February 11, 1962, she was united in marriage to Harold L. McKinley in Plainfield. The couple made their home in Saint Ansgar, Iowa. Following Harold's death in 1973, Pauline moved back to Plainfield.

"She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainfield, was a 50 year member of the O.E.S. [Order of the Eastern Star] in Nashua, was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary #472 in Plainfield, and was a charter member of the Plainfield Women's Club.

"Following the graveside services, relatives and friends are invited to return to the church for fellowship with the family."
