John William Charlesworth, 1879-1907

John William Charlesworth was born in Osage, Iowa, January 17, 1879, and here he made his home for the little over twenty-eight years of his short life that was so suddenly terminated June 15, 1907.

His boyhood and young manhood days were all spent in Osage. Here he went to school, here he was employed and here he passed away.

In the spring of 1985 he commenced to work for Ben Katz and during eight years of the twelve since that date he has continued in his employ and the other four years his time was divided between Mr. Katz and other employers.

Mr. Katz speaks of him in the most complimentary terms as competent, frugal, faithful and strictly honest. Mr. Katz says that when John was there he could go away and leave thing in his charge with confidence that everything would be cared for just as well as if he or his son were there to look after it.

Such words speak more of his worth and character than columns of type. Such testimony is gained only by faithful service.

John was a boy seldom seen on the streets, especially in business hours, and when he was there, he was quiet and unobtrusive.

He was a member of the fire company and the fire boys attended his funeral in a body, the services being conducted by Rev. Shaffer and the remains being laid to rest in the Osage cemetery.

He was the first of a large family to answer the death summons. His parents, five sisters and two brothers mourn the too early death of an affectionate son and brother.
