Mathia "Martha" (Pederson) Lundene, 1864-1911

Mrs. Martha Lundene was born near Salem, Wisconsin, January 1864. Six years later she came with her parents to the Rock Creek, Iowa area. In 1888 she was united in marriage to Ole A. Lundene. This union was blessed with three children: Alma, Stella and Otto.

Alma has attended the Osage High School and is now teaching the home school. Stella has attended the high school this year. Otto is only ten years of age.

The mother was very much interested in educating her children and especially so in regard to Christian education, promoting it in the home, the parochial school and the catechetical class. These children certainly mourn the loss of a good and loving mother.

Her husband died June 20, 1904. Besides the three children, three sisters and four brothers survive her; Mrs. Martin Evenson, Osage; Mrs. Ole Johnson, Orchard; and Miss Bergitte Pederson. The brothers are Peter, John, Severin, and Martin Pederson. The one sister and the brothers reside in Rock Creek, Floyd County, Iowa.

Mrs. Lundene died of pneumonia at her home in Floyd County, January 5, 1911, at the age of 46 years, 11 months, and 22 days.

The funeral services were held at the Rock Creek Lutheran church on Monday, January 9th. A large number of relatives and friends were present at the services. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Rock Creek cemetery.
