Birth: Sep. 20, 1883
Death: Aug. 17, 1954

(As reported in the St. Ansgar Enterprise on Thursday, August 26, 1954)

Funeral services for Frank J. Sedlacek, 71, who died at his home in St. Ansgar on Tuesday, August 17, were held at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage with the Rev. Thomas J. Conroy, pastor of the St. Ansgar Catholic church officiating.

Frank J. Sedlacek was born September 20, 1883, three miles east of town on the home farm, the son of Barbara and Venzel Sedlacek. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith.
At the age of 16 he entered into farming operations and soon became one of the largest growers of truck vegetables in this part of the country.

On February 7, 1913 he was married to the former Miss Della Hylden by the Rev. J. Wharton, pastor of the St. Ansgar Methodist church. To this union one daughter, Dorothy, was born. Mr. Sedlacek was always devoted to his family, and in his younger years in his many agricultural enterprises helped many people of the community.

In the early 1920's Mr. Sedlacek reached a peak in crop production of onions, cabbage and potatoes. At this time he harvested as many as 150 acres of onions, 130 of potatoes and 50 of cabbage in a single year. These truck crops were all grown besides approximately 350 acres of corn, oats and clover in rotation. Besides working his own land, Mr. Sedlacek also bought great quantities of vegetables from other St. Ansgar growers for market.

At one time his truck crop business required the exclusive use of six warehouses, four in St. Ansgar and one each in Carpenter and Mitchell. Sedlacek vegetables were shipped to New York, New Orleans, Denver, Quebec, Winnipeg, San Francisco and Havana Cuba.

Mr. Sedlacek also fed large numbers of hogs and cattle on his farms in his more active days. He had been in ill health for some time and died at his home following a heart attack.

Mr. Sedlacek is survived by his wife, Della, his daughter Mrs. Daniel Kopploman of Gary Indiana, and one grand daughter Delores, at home; also two brothers Joe of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Louis of Mason City.

Interment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetary.
