OBITUARY:

JESUP, IOWA - Services for Rachel L. VanNice Ricketts, 36, of 1154 Hawley St., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup.

She died on Sunday, October 30, 1988 at Covenant Medical Center at Kimball Avenue, Waterloo, after a brief illness.

She was born on January 25, 1952 in Sioux City, Woodbury county, Iowa, the daughter of Robert W. and Mable Gray VanNice. She married Joseph M. Ricketts on March 27, 1971, in Independence, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband; her mother, of St. Ansgar; a son, Richard Matthew at home; and a brother Dennis Van Nice of Midland, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Parker Funeral Chapel and an hour before services Wednesday at the Church.

Mrs. Joseph Ricketts Funeral
Services Held November 3
At Jesup Methodist Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph {Rachel Lee} Ricketts, 36, of Jesup who died Sunday October 30 at a Waterloo hospital, were held Wednesday, November 2, at the Methodist church there.

Mrs. Ricketts was born January 25, 1952, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Van Nice of St. Ansgar. She was baptized May 11, 1952 at the United Methodist church here by the Rev. Rollin Oswald. She was confirmed in 1966 and was an activ member of the church.

Mrs. Ricketts attended St. Ansgar schools and was graduated in 1970. She enjoyed sports such as softball and swimming and also played the saxaphone in the band and was a member of the school chorus.

She attended Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo and later graduated from the Waterloo School of Cosmetology and worked as a beautician until her illness.

She married Joseph Ricketts in an Independence church on March 27, 1971. The couple lived in St. Ansgar and operated a body shop for about six years. Their son, Richard Matthew, was born December 17, 1972 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital. He spent many happy hours with his grandparents and friends in St. Ansgar.

They moved to Jesup where Joseph is employed as a draftsman at Waterloo Industries.

Mrs. Ricketts enjoyed watching birds at their feeders and raised two quail from babies. She spent many hours watching and photographing birds and small animals in their wood lot and caring for her small pets and dog.

Survivors include her husband Joseph and son, Richard of Jessup: mother, Mabel Van Nice, St. Ansgar; and brother Dr. Dennis Van Nice of Midland, Texas.

Preceding her in death was her father, Dr. Robert Van Nice.

Burial was in the Cedar Crest Cemetery at Jessup.
