RICEVILLE, IOWA -- Norman Joel Chase, 60, of Riceville, formerly of Mason City, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at home after a lengthy illness.

Survivors include his wife, Leota; a son, Jeffrey of Glen Burnie, Md.; two daughters, Mary Anderson and Diane Chase, both of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren; and a sister, Pamela Loeckle of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. today at Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, with interment at a later date.

Mr. Chase was a member of the Iowa National Guard and was a firefighter with the Mason City Fire Department for 30 years.

NORMAN JOEL CHASE

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Norman Joel Chase, 60, 411 S. Pine, Riceville, died Sunday (Nov. 14, 1999) at his home.

Joel was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Rochester, Minn., son of Edwin and Joyce (McIntosh) Chase. He moved with his family to Mason City in 1952 and graduated from Mason City High School in 1957.

He married Leota Eastman on June 6, 1959 in McIntire, Iowa.

Joel joined the Mason City Fire Department in 1964 and retired from there after over 30 years of service. He attained the rank of lieutenant and served as president of the Iowa Association of Firefighters Local 633.

From 1978 to 1990, he was co-owner of Scott-Chase Trucking. He also drove for Cenex and Ruan Transportation.

Joel enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved being at the cabin on Lake Lissie, Minn. He had been a member of Moose Lodge No. 1328 since 1972 and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Leota, of Riceville; son, Jeffrey Chase, Glen Burnie, Md; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Chris Anderson, of Osklaloosa; and daughter, Diane Chase, Oskaloosa; also grandchildren, Will Anderson, Nicole Anderson, Michael Chase and Teresa Chase; a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Dennis Loeckle, of Mason City.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jon Chase and Mike Chase, and a nephew, Eric Loeckle.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, in Riceville, with Hospice Chaplain Kathy Graves officiating.
