James P. Kelly

Funeral services were held Monday, May 13 at McLaren's Funeral Chapel in Des Moines for James P. Kelly, age 71, of Creston, Iowa. Cremation followed the service with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines on Tuesday. Kelly died Thursday, May 9 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines from complications of leukemia.

He was born in Charles City, Iowa, and at a young age moved to Osage with his parents. He graduated from OHS in 1948.

His residence at death was Creston, where he had lived one year. He also had resided in Adel, Panora and West Des Moines, 18 years.

Kelly was a nursing home administrator retiring in 2001. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Creston, Iowa and the Antique Auto Club of America-Des Moines region and was a classic car enthusiast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jennie Kelly and a brother Leo.

Survivors include three daughters, Lora Kelly-Beck and Erin Kelly, both of Des Moines, Iowa and Paula Kelly of Coralville, Iowa; two grandchildren; one brother Bernard Kelly of Virginia and one sister, Margaret Gieser of Idaho.

Memorial contributions may be made to John Stoddard Cancer Center. The McLaren’s Funeral Chapel, Des Moines was in charge of arrangement.
