Thea Caroline (Norby) Johnson, 1877-1945
Mrs. Nick (Caroline) Johnson died at the home of her son Herbert, in the Rock Creek community, after being confined to her bed for the past seven weeks. For the past six years she has been in failing health.
Thea Caroline Norby was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, on May 9, 1877, the daughter of Halstein and Taran Norby, one of a family of twelve children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church. She attended public school in the Dudley school.
She was united in marriage to Nicolai Johan Johnson on June 23, 1897 and they established their home in Cedar Township and continued to live there until 1924 when they moved to Osage. In 1939 her husband passed away. She continued to live in her own home in Osage until 1942. Since that time she has lived with her children.
She is survived by three children: Herbert, Thelma (Mrs. Kalmar Klemesrud), and Nora (Mrs. Lloyd Gillerman), all of the Rock Creek community; one brother, Carl Norby, of the Rock Creek community; and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Klemesrud, of Whittier, CA.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Champion Funeral home and at the Rock Creek Lutheran church with the Rev. C. Blaine Gunderson officiating. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
