Gulbrand Iverson, 1845-1932

Gulbrand Iverson, son of Iver Gulbrandsen and Olaug Olsen Iverson, was born in Hedalen Valdres, Norway on August 12, 1845. At the age of twenty years, he came to America and located temporarily in Black Earth, Dane County, Wisconsin. In coming to this community, he located on his farm in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. With the exception of one year, during which he was cared for in the home of his son, Peter, he continued to live in the old home until the time of his death.

On January 16, 1889, he entered into matrimony with Miss Ragnild Enger. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Johan Olson at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Mrs. Iverson preceded him in death on July 10, 1901. In their wedlock the following children were born and survive: Mrs. Lars (Caroline) Wamstad, Oliver, Peter, Oscar and Carl.

The departed brother has enjoyed good health until the usual infirmities of old age appeared. He had always been industrious in all his affairs. During his sojourn in this community, he has also been a loyal member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He died on September 19, 1932 at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 7 days. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia.

Funeral services were conducted from the Champion Funeral Home at 1 p.m. and from the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. on September 21, 1932. Officiating was the Rev. O.C. Myhre. Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery.
