Dr. M. Elise Carlsen, 88, of 626 E. Micheltoreana St., an osteopath here for 41 years, died yesterday in St. Francis Hospital after a brief illness.

Dr. Carlsen came to this city in 1924 after graduating from the Los Angeles College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. Born in St. Ansgar, Iowa, November 18, 1886, she received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State College at Ames after spending her early years in Iowa.

After practicing here from 1924 to 1965, Dr. Carlsen retired but remained in Santa Barbara. She was a member of the Zonta International, Women's Forum, American Osteopathic Assn, and First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are two nephews, Arthur Hansen and Victor Jorgensen both of Osage, Iowa; two nieces, Mrs. May H. Wilson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mrs. Albert Fox of Newton, N.D.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Welch-Ryce Associates chapel, Dr. Lawrence E. Fisher will officiate. Burial will be in St. Ansgar in the family plot.

Friends may remember the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, or Zonta Service Committe, care of Welch-Ryce Associates.
