Illness Fatal to I. Motland

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Ingolf Motland, 82, who died at Mitchell County Memorial hospital, December 1, 1976.

The Rev. Paul Metzger, pastor, was in charge of the rites at Rock Creek Lutheran church. The Champion Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements, with burial in the Rock Creek cemetery.

Ingolf Motland was born December 12, 1893, on the family farm in Cedar township, the son of Peder I. and Martha Maakestad Motland. He was baptized Jan. 6, 1894, and confirmed in the Norwegian language June 14, 1908, and served in various offices and musical activities of the Rock Creek Lutheran church. He attended Cedar No. 5 rural school, St. Ansgar seminary and Waldorf college.

Mr. Motland was engaged in farming until stricken with polio in the fall of 1937. He moved to his present home in Osage in 1960. Although confined to a wheelchair, he continued farming operations for several years and maintained an active interest until his death.

Well read in political and world affairs, he was also active in community functions, in developing the R.E.A., membership in the Lybarger Orchestra, the North Iowa Symphony, quartettes, and leader of his own orchestra. He continued to play his violin for various functions, including local nursing homes, until the past year when he was confined more to his home.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Alida, with whom he lived; and a brother Milton, of Palm Beach Florida; eight nieces and nephews, 22 great-nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and nephews.
