OBITUARY: Joseph Leeman, 1850-1935, Mitchell Co.
Joe Leeman, who for thirty-seven years has lived on south Sixth street, Osage, passed away Sunday at the Nissen hospital, where he had been taken a day previously. Two weeks ago he spent some time at the hospital, but recovered enough to be taken home again.
Joseph Leeman was born in Schoharie County, New York, February 16, 1850, to Robert and Abigail Leeman, and in 1855 came with his parents to Dodge County, Wisconsin.
In 1871 he married Martha Bell in Dodge County. She passed away many years ago. To this union were born nine children, all of whom survive except one daughter, Elsie May Doan, Little Cedar, and Harvey L. Leeman, who died in the Phillipines during the Spanish-American War.
The remaining children are: Mrs. John Bower, Osage; Mrs. Jay Towner, Charles City; Mrs. Ruby Richardson, Chicago; Alfred Leeman, Osage; Frank R. Leeman, St. Paul; and Bert Leeman, Oregon.
He moved to Iowa in 1877 and bought a farm near Little Cedar, living there until 1895, when he moved to Osage and purchased the home where he has lived for thirty-seven years.
In 1897 he married Ora B. Patrick, of Osage, who with his children mourns his death.
He is also survived by one brother, Sanford Leeman, of Waupun, Wisconsin, and a sister, Mrs. Ella Patrick, Grano, North Dakota, and fourteen grandchildren. Two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
