Funeral services for a former Otranto resident, Mrs. Harold Gaarder, 71, who died September 27 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, were held September 29 at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, with the Rev. Dennis Griffin officiating. Interment was in Sioux Falls.
Alice Rustad, daughter of Robert C. and Annie (Nelson) Rustad, was born March 29, 1906 in Mitchell county on the Rustad farm near Mona. She attended Mona school, also Otranto, and was employed in Domestic work in Minneapolis before her marriage to Harold Gaarder on December 23, 1945 in Minneapolis. They lived in Fargo, N.D. and South Dakota before moving to Sioux Falls in 1953. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Survivors are her husband, Harold; one son, David of Sioux Falls; three sisters: Mrs. M.F. Cedarstrom of Bellingham, Washington, Mrs. Mense (Amy) Fossey of Lyle, and Miss Annie Rustad of Minneapolis; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Carroll Rustad.
Relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Mense Fossey, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Fossey, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Meyer and Kurt, Mrs. Emery Price and Randy, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rustad, Mrs. Lila Rustad, Mr. and Mrs. Almo Jahr, Helen N. Nelson, Rudy Haugland, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Carlson from the Mona area, and Joyce Rustad, Northwood.
