Funeral services were held for Lorraine Hartwig Koster, age 80, of St. Ansgar, Iowa on Friday, October 25, 2002 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Pastor Byron Northwick officiated. Burial was in Newburg Cemetery, Carpenter, Iowa.
She died Monday, October 21, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Iowa, where she resided for the past six years.
Lorraine was born on September 3, 1922 to Alvin and Josephine (Rosenberg) Ruechel and grew up on a farm near Carpenter. She graduated from Carpenter High School in 1940. She then married Raymond Hartwig and lived on the Hartwig family farm south of Otranto where they raised six children. Lorraine loved living on the farm where she grew flowers and had a large garden.
She loved the outdoors and looked forward to yearly family fishing trips in northern Minnesota. Music was a great joy to her. She looked forward to participating in "The Messiah" at Easter and was active in the church choir. She enjoyed Ladies Aid and quilting with her fellow church members.
Raymond Hartwig passed away in February 1971 and Lorraine then moved into St. Ansgar. She married Al Koster in 1973. He passed away in 1993. Lorraine worked as a waitress at the Maple Inn Cafe in Osage for several years where she enjoyed meeting new people and visiting with her customers.
Preceding her in death were her beloved daughter, Audrey Miller, who died on October 20, 1987, her two husbands, her parents and brother Wayne Ruechel.
Those thankful for sharing in her life are her children: Arlynn of Davenport, Andy and wife Susan of Northwood, Craig and wife Nancy of Port Orchard, Washington, Michael of Des Moines, Connie of Dunkerton, son-in-law Duane Miller and wife Mary Ann of Stillwater, Minnesota, 14 grandchildren: Cathi, Lisa, Tom, Kerry, Natalee, Julia, Eric, Jenny, Aaron, Brent, Matthew, Katherine, Johanna and Ethan, four great-grandchildren: Chase, Madeline, Evan and Nathan, her sister Marlene and husband Darold Yost of LeRoy, Minnesota, and nine stepchildren.

ST. ANSGAR - Lorraine Hartwig Koster, 80, of St. Ansgar, died Monday (Oct. 21, 2002) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar where she had resided for the past six years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with Pastor Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in Newburg Cemetery in Carpenter.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
