OSAGE, IOWA - Louise (Palmer) Halbach, age 91, of Osage died Thursday (Jan. 7, 2010) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.

Though busy with a large family, Louise found the time to faithfully serve Sacred Heart Church as an active member of the Ladies Guild and Our Lady of Good Counsel Study Club, which she helped organize in 1947. She also was a teachers aide at Sacred Heart School, loved singing in the church choir, and was involved in the local Red Cross as well as Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. During the winter months, you could always catch her crocheting a beautiful afghan, hooking a rug, or embroidering pillowcases and towels.

Louise was blessed with a green thumb and grew a variety of houseplants that were often donated to the fall festivals. She also loved reading and was an avid history buff. Al and Louise had a wide circle of friends, many of whom belonged to a very lively card club that met regularly for more than 30 years.

Louise is survived by her eight children: Stan of Denver, Colo., Steve (Nancy) of Nashua, Eloise (Gary) Kuper of Osage, Jim of Osage, Tony (Pat) of Osage, Terry Kampman of Cedar Falls, Maureen (Dave) Salter of Woodville, Wis., and Jody (Jim) Johnson of Osage; 25 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; her sister, Catherine Blaser, of Charles City; sister-in-law, Bertilla Mullenbach, of Rochester, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews
