TOETERVILLE, IOWA - Mitchell County's oldest resident, Carl Decklever, 103, died Thursday at the Baldner Rest Home, Adams, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Schroeder & Houg Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Toeterville.

He had been a member of this church since coming to America in 1883. The Reverend William Kamke will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Born in Pomern, Germany, December 21, 1859, he was married to Bertha Krueger. In 1882 he came to America with his wife, three children and parents. They settled in Union Township near Toeterville. He operated a livery stable and threshing machine and farmed until retiring to Toeterville in 1909. After the death of his wife in 1943, he had lived with relatives.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Baldner, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Cora Baldwin, Osage; two sons, Charlie, Osage; Henry, Austin, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, William and Otto; three daughters, Mrs. Hulda Pinke, Mrs. Amanda Baldner and Mrs. Mattie Geffert.

Relatives and friends gathered from Austins, Adams, Elkton, Minnesota, Mason City, Stacyville, McIntire, Toeterville and Osage, Iowa, to help Carl Decklever celebrate his 90th birthday, Sunday, December 18, 1949, at the Home Trust Bank club room.

Carl Decklever and wife (deceased) came from Germany to America in 1882, bringing their three children. They moved to St. Ansgar township on a farm known as the old Wardell homestead. In 1890 he bought a farm northeast of St. Ansgar, living there until they retired to Toeterville in 1909. Since the death of his wife in 1942, he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ben Johnson, in Osage.

Carl Decklever is the father of nine children: William of Osage, Mrs. P.J. (Bertha) Baldner of St. Ansgar, Otto and Charles of Osage, Henry of St. Ansgar, and Mrs. Ben (Cora) Johnson of Osage. Amanda Baldner, Julda Pinke, and Meta Geffert have died. There are 18 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Decklever enjoys good health, being of alert mind and excellent physical condition.

A pt luck dinner was served after a program which consisted of recitations and songs by the great-grandchildren. The Rev. E.C. Meyer of Toeterville gave a brief address. Mr. Decklever has been a member of this church for 57 years.

Frank Klaehn of Elkton, spoke of their return trip to Germany 37 years ago. After a social time was spent, the birthday cake was served.
