Memorial services for Donald Earl Piper, 71, who died Tuesday, September 7, 1993, were held Friday, September 10 at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with the Reverend Robert Lemmermann officiating.
Donald Earl Piper was born April 22, 1922 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, the son of Charles Edward and Emily Anna Ray Piper. When Don was two years old he and his three sisters were placed in foster homes. Don made his home with Hernam and Eva Gremmert. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1941. He was employed at Kato Engineering in Mankato, Minnesota until his enlistment in the Navy May 1942. He served as electricians mate on the Destroyer USS Seid in the Pacific until the end of World War II.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine Wright November 18, 1945 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Don worked at the St. Ansgar Rural Electric Coop for 32 years.
Don’s health failed and he has spend the past six years in the Good Samaritan Center.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine, St. Ansgar; daughter Carol and Husband, Gary Dockum and children, Aaron, Jessica and Joshua of Rock Falls; daughter Christine and husband, Jon Barry and their children, Natalie and Sydney of Rochester, Minnesota; daughter Susan and husband, Harry May and their children, Cassie, Hillary, Gabriel and Skyler of Stacyville; one great grandson, Isaac Dockum; sisters, Orpha, Marian and Dorothy; mother-in-law, Geraldine V. Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents and an infant sister.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
