OSAGE, IOWA - Joan Toye, age 78, of Osage died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Faith Home in Osage.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5:30 p.m.

Joan was born July 31, 1931, at Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa, the daughter of John Salz, Jr. and Anna (Wiesbrock) Salz.

Joan was united in marriage to Omar Toye on July 14, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They made their home in Osage. Joan worked for the AC Nielsen Co. in Mason City for 24 years and retired in 1990. Joan was a member of the Osage VFW Ladies Auxiliary for 50 years and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She loved spending time with family and friends. Joan enjoyed winter-time visits with Tom in Las Vegas and the friends she made out there. She also enjoyed reading.

Joan is survived by a daughter, Deanna (Martin) Heavey of Boston, Massachusetts; three sons, Tom Toye of Osage, Daniel Toye of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tony Toye of Boscobel, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Kelleen and Martin Heavey of Boston, Massachusetts, Hannah and Noah Toye of Boscobel, Wisconsin; a sister, Frances Kratoska of Evansdale; and a brother, Jack (Arlene) Salz of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Omar Toye in 1996; three brothers and three sisters.
