Funeral services were held Monday for a rural St. Ansgar man, Lawrence Ask, 87, who died September 7, 1978 at Mitchell County Memorial hospital after being injured in a car accident August 21 near Otranto. This was the second fatality in Mitchell county in 1978.

The Rev. Stephen Engelstad, pastor, was in charge of the rites at First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar and burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were by C.R. Champion and Sons of Osage.

Lawrence Ingvahl Ask was born March 15, 1891, on the Ask family farm, now a century farm, the son of Anton L. and Marie Dammen Ask. In his childhood he lived one year in Oregon, then returned to Rock township and later to the Ask farm, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was baptized at his home by the Rev. Johann Olsen and was confirmed in 1905 in Silverton, Oregon.

Julia Moen and Lawrence Ask were united in marriage Nov. 1, 1916. He served on the Rock township school board many years, was a member of the board of First Lutheran, and the Mitchell township board more than 30 years. He was a lifelong member of First Lutheran.

Surviving are one son, Duaine on the family farm; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia, his parents,one brother and his twin sister.
