ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Gerlach, 89, who died Sunday at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital, Osage, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Ansgar Methodist church. Burial will be in the Priem cemetery west of St Ansgar. The Schroeder and Houg funeral home in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by five sons: Roy, St. Cloud, Minnesota; Earl, Arthur, Wilmer and Gene, all of St. Ansgar; by three daughters: Mrs. John Ball, St. Ansgar, Mrs. Harold Nickerson, Osage; and Mrs. Irving Groth, Des Moines; by two sisters, Mrs. Rose Prigenow, Miss Clara Priem, and one brother, Jake Priem, all of Nora Springs.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma M. Gerlach, 89, were held Wednesday afternoon at the St. Ansgar Methodist church. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer, church pastor was in charge. Burial was in the Priem family cemetery west of St. Ansgar.

Mrs. Gerlach died Sunday [April 5, 1964] at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.

Emma M. Priem was born August 1, 1874, in Newburg township, Mitchell county, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Priem. Except for a few years her family lived Nora Springs she spent her entire life in this vicinity.

As a pioneer of the area she related how wolves would follow their wagon home from town, how they forded the streams, and going to the mill to have flour ground.

She was married to Frank H. Gerlach, Sept. 26, 1894, at the home of her parents. They farmed in Newberg township until his death, August 5, 1927. She continued to live on the farm with her sons, Arthur and Wilmer until her death.

Mrs. Gerlach was an active member of the Methodist church, a member of the local WCTU, Royal Neighbors of America, and a charter member of the Mitchell County Historical Society.

She is survived by five sons: Roy H. Gerlach of St. Cloud, Minn., Earl, Arthur, Wilmer and Gene of St. Ansgar; three daughters, Mrs. Irling Groth of Des Moines; Mrs. Harold Nickerson and Mrs. Irma Ball of St. Ansgar; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
