OSAGE- Funeral rites are pending for Mrs. Anna Hartwig, who died Wednesday at a hospital in Independence; body is at Champion Funeral Home.

Born Anna Koschmeder in Germany, as a young girl she accompanied her parents to near Mitchell, Iowa.

She was married to Carl Hartwig in 1891 and the couple lived on their farm southwest of Osage.

She had been a patient at the hospital for 32 years.

She leaves four sons, Henry, Rudolph, Elvin, Oscar, and a daughter, Edna, all of Osage, two brothers, Herman, Osage and Will, Riceville.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Karl Neuman, Northwood; . . . her husband, a daughter, Ella, and two brothers, Henry and August.

Anna P. Koschmeder was born on October 12, 1871, in Grapschen Kreis Breslau, Prussia to Heinrich and Christina Weiss Koschmeder. She immigrated to the United States with her parents and the rest of the family. They left their home in Pieskerwitz, embarked on the S.S. Slovonia from Swinemunde, Germany and arrived at the Port of New York on June 22, 1888. The family came ashore with their one piece of baggage on June 25th. They joined Anna's brother, August, in West Mitchell, Mitchell County, Iowa.

Anna married Carl W. Hartwig on August 2, 1891 in Mitchell County, Iowa. Carl was born on January 7, 1858 in Germany to Reinhart and Minnie Berges Hartwig. The Hartwig family came to the United States in 1864.

Anna and Carl farmed on the couth quarter of Section 5, Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. They were the parents of six children.

Henry Frederick was born on February 21, 1892 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was a W.W.I veteran. Henry passed away on July 26, 1967 in Mitchell County, Iowa and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Rudolph Reinhard was born on February 14, 1897 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was a World War I veteran. Rudolph passed away on November 29, 1962 in Osage, Iowa and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Alvin L. was born on July 28, 1898 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He passed away on December 4, 1971 in Mitchell County, Iowa and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Oscar was born on September 11, 1900 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He passed away on February 3, 1982 in Osage, Iowa and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Ella Lena was born on January 16, 1902 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She passed away on September 26, 1925 in Mitchell County, Iowa and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Edna was born on February 16, 1906 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She passed away on May 12, 1984 in Rochester, Minnesota and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

Carl W. passed away on October 14, 1918 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Anna passed away on November 15, 1950 in Independence, Iowa. They and are buried at the Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Township.

The children all remained single and lived together in the home of their parents and continued to work the family farm. After Oscar's death, Edna moved to Osage, Iowa.
