Funeral services for Clarence E. Eckert, 70, of Meltonville, who died June 5, 1980 at the Veterans Medical Center in Minneapolis were held June 9 at the Schroeder Funeral Home here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad, pastor of First Lutheran church officiating.

Clarence Emery Eckert was born July 19, 1909 in Storden, Minn., the son of Effie (Tunmore) and Ross Eckert. He attended Otranto public school. He entered military service in 1943, and was involved in the European invasion. He farmed at various places in Iowa and Minnesota, and upon retirement moved to Meltonville in 1972.

He married Ethelyn Wambeam and three children were born to them. Ross Eckert of Coon Rapids, Minn., Emery Eckert of Cedar Falls and Mrs. Robert (Thera) Betsinger of Aurora, Ill.

He married Fae Anderson July 23, 1942 in Albert Lea, Minn. and nine children were born to them. Ervin (Pete) Eckert of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Robert Eckert of Anoka, Minn.; Dennis Eckert of Northwood; Marvin Eckert of Meltonville; Donna Ciavarelli of St. Ansgar; July Hurdlicka of Oregon; Jane Eckert of Meltonville; Gloria Cole of Big Fork, Minn.; and Connie Eckert of Meltonville; also surviving are 28 grandchildren and one great grandchild; three brothers, Shirley Eckert of Oregon; Willis of Florida; and Jason of Albert Lea; four sisters, Valyda Goodew of St. Ansgar; Ruth Thatcher of Rose Creek, Minn.; Stella Wambeam of Austin, Minn.; and Lillian Johnson of De Witt; also nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one grandson.

Burial was in Woodbury cemetery, Lyle, with Rev. Engelstad in charge of committal services.
