Emil Julius Johnson was born in Otranto township September 17, 1912 to Julius and Martha (Ringhand) Johnson. He was baptized in Mona, attended Otranto school and was confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter by the Rev. Langehough.

He married Lillian A. Robertson August 17, 1938 in Osage. To this union five children were born. Darrell, deceased, Dean Johnson of Scottsdale, Ariona; Mrs. John (Sharon) Goplerud, Park Rapids, Minnesota; Dennis, deceased, Mrs. Terry (Marcia) Leidall, St. Ansgar.

Emil moved with his family at the age of 12 to a farm west of Otranto. He bought the family farm and lived his entire life on that farm. He and Lillian spent the winter months in Yuma, Arizona after retirement. He died there March 19, 1995 at the age of 82.

He is survived by one son, two daughters, four sisters, Agnes DeMaris, Bolan; Esther Everson, Lyle, Minnesota, Nellie Helfritz, Sterling, Kansas, and Charlotte Marcusson, St. Ansgar; one brother, Maynard Johnson of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, two sons, three brothers and one sister.

Services were held March 24 at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church with Rev. Al Stoa officiating.

Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
