Riceville Man is Dead From Heart Attack
RICEVILLE, IOWA - John P. Servoss grocery store operator here for the last 45 years, died Sunday at his home of a heart attack. He would have been 75 Monday.
His niece, Ruby Servoss found him slumped in a chair when she returned from Sunday school. He apparently had been preparing to attend church and sat down to rest.
Mr. Servoss’s store was known as “John’s on the Corner”
He was born March 17, 1872 at Arlington and came to Riceville in 1903 and started his store. He was married about that time to Miss Bird Bronson, who died in 1934. Mr. Servoss was a charter member of the Riceville Community club.
His only survivor is a son, Evard, formerly a soloist with the Columbia Broadcasting System, now a technician for the company in New York.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at the Methodist Church, Reverend Donald Cummins, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
