DEATH OF MRS. BERNARD HEIL
Mrs. Bernard Heil, one of the first residents of the town of Waterloo, died at the home of her son, Mattice, in West Mitchell, Iowa, from paralysis, aged 86 years.
She was born in Heidelburg, Province of Baden, Germany; her maiden name being Martha Larch. She emigrated to this country with her parents in 1836, settling on a farm near Manchester, Wastanaw Co., Michigan, where she was married two years later to Bernard Heil.
They moved from there to Medina, Ohio, where they took up farming, remaining there about six years.
They then came to Wisconsin, settling on a farm in the town of Waterloo in 1844, about two and one-half miles southeast of this village, on the farm now owned by Aug. Mielke.
They removed from the town of Waterloo in 1877, settling on a farm near West Mitchell, Iowa, where her husband died February 24, [1885??]. Seven children were born to them, four sons and three daughters. They are as follows: Joseph who died at Wausau, this state in 1863; Barbara, died at the old homestead in the town of Waterloo Nov. 24, 1862; John, who still resides in this village; Sivilla, who died in Iowa; Mrs. Aug. Wolfgram who lived at Minneapolis; Bernard lives at Green [SIC], Butler Co., Iowa; and Mattice who resides at West Mitchell, Iowa.
Two of their children, Joseph and barbara were born in Ohio and the other five were born in this township. Her son John was the first child born on the Island.
The funeral took place at West Mitchell, Wednesday. The remains were laid at restbesides those of her husband in the cemetery of that place.
