Mrs. Otis Moore Dies
at Home of N. Y. DaughterMODENA, N.Y. — Death came to Mrs. Otis Moore, widow of a former Methodist Church leader in Iowa at the home of a daughter here, Mrs. Alison Moore Swords. Mr. Moore, whose passing occurred only seven months ago, once served at St. Ansgar.
Born at Iowa Falls on December 30, 1882, Alice Moore was the daughter ter of a Methodist District superintendent, Joshua H. Rigby. Her grandfather, Samuel Fellows, was the first president of Cornell College.
After her graduation from Cornell in 1902, Mrs. Moore taught English at Belle Plaine and the University of Iowa. Her marriage to Otis Moore, a lifelong friend, took place on June 20, 1911.
Together they served churches in Connecticut and Massachusetts as well as in Iowa. Iowa pastorates included St. Ansgar, Bennett, Elwood and Brandon. Their special interest was rural churches. For a time Mr. Moore was secretary of the Cornell Alumni Association.
Mrs. Moore's active interest in the missionary movement took her to the far corners of the world, including India, Burma and other Far Eastern countries. Her research in recent years produced a six-volume history of Methodist world missions.
Frineds of the Moores are perpetuating their memory through gifts for rural missions in India. Donations may be sent to a son, the Reverend Richard W. Moore, at Franklin, New York.
