ROY THORSON FUNERAL HELD HERE MONDAY
Funeral services for Roy Thorson, 76, who died at his home in Grand Rapids, Minn., were held Monday, September 19, 1966, at the First Lutheran church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Don Comnick, pastor officiating. Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery at St. Ansgar.
Mr. Thorson was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran church at Grand Rapids where a funeral service was held on Saturday, with the Rev. Edmund Bentrup in charge.
Roy Thorson, son of Ole E. and Amelia (Moe) Thorson was born May 1, 1890 in Newburg township. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran church. His grade and high school were completed in Newburg township and St. Ansgar and he was graduated from the St. Ansgar Seminary.
On November 5, 1913 he was united in marriage to Leona Duenow at Albert Lea, Minn.
The couple farmed in the St. Ansgar/Carpenter area until 1918 when they moved to Wadena, Minn. where he operated his farm, saw mill and trucking business. In 1941 they moved to Squaw Lake and in 1947 to Grand Rapids where he was general manager for the George Kananen Wild Rice Co in Arrowhead. He was captain of the Blanding Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, Lena; one daughter, Mrs. Joseph (Oveda) Boylan of Wadena, Minn.; three sons, Leigh, stationed with the Armed Forces at Newport News. Va.; Russell at Bellingham, Wash.; Kenneth of Waterloo, and 13 grandchildren. Also four brothers, Clifford, Leon and Annis of St. Ansgar, Hubert of Mason City, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Sanders of Northwood, Mrs. Otto W. (Mildred) Tesch of St. Ansgar and Mrs. William (Rose) Friese of Kansas City, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and a brother, Donald.
Mrs. Alma Sanders of Northwood, Mr. and Mrs. Annis Thorson and Leon Thorson attended the services in Grand Rapids on Saturday.
