Lawrence Frederick Christian Rosenberg, 1903-1978

Funeral services for Lawrence F. Rosenberg, 74, who died at his home in St. Ansgar April 20, 1978, were held April 24 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church here with the Rev. Norman E. Betke officiating.

Lawrence Frederick Christian Rosenberg, son of Robert C. and Lena (Dieterichs) Rosenberg, was born in Newburg township November 27, 1903. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran church, Rock township, by the Rev. Becker December 16, 1903. His sponsors were Christian Brogmus, Mrs. Ella Nack and Frederick Dieterich. He attended rural school in Newburg Township. Instructed by the Rev. Reinecke, he was confirmed at St. John's in 1916.

On October 23, 1927 he married Esther Priem at St. John's Lutheran church with the Rev. Gemaehlich officiating. Two daughters were born to them.

The Rosenbergs farmed for a time in Newburg township, and then moved to St. Ansgar where he was employed as a cream hauler for the St. Ansgar Creamery, and he also worked with his uncle, Herman Dieterichs in the carpenter trade. Mr. and Mrs. Rosenberg became members of Immanuel Lutheran church in 1930.

Mr. Rosenberg was employed by the CO-Op Oil Co. as its bulk tank wagon distributor in the St. Ansgar area for 36 years. As a local businessman, he was interested in his community, and over the years served as a member of the school board, as a volunteer fireman, town councilman and remained interested in his community following his retirement and served the town in various ways.

He had served Immanuel Lutheran church as a member of the board of deacons and as chairman of the congregation.

Mr. Rosenberg is survived by his wife, Esther; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Shirley Jean) Eide of Mason City and Mrs. Newlin (Gloria Ann) Jensen of St. Ansgar; six grandchildren: Mrs. Paul (Marcia) Hert of Iowa City; Larry Eide of Mason City; Mrs. Stan (Carol) Horsfall of Mason City; Mrs. Mikel (Susan) Urbatsch of Manly; Greg and Steve Jensen of St. Ansgar; two great grandchildren, Heather Hert of Iowa City and Ryan Horsfall of Mason City; two brothers, Roy and Elmer Rosenberg of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey (Irene) Boettcher and Mrs. Alton (Allene) Halvorson of Lyle; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Betke in charge of committal services.
