ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Elsie Haibeck, 87, of St. Ansgar, died Monday, September 9, 1996, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Steele, N.D. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Steele, North Dakota.
Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
Elsie was born on May 25, 1909, in Cogswell, North Dakota, to Charles and Ella Hatfield Dettloff.
She graduated from high school in 1927 at Donnybrook, North Dakota, and after summer school at Minot State Teachers College. She taught one-room school near Steele, North Dakota.
She married Francis L. Haibeck on Dec. 23, 1930, and to this union were born two daughters. During these years, Elsie was active in church and civic organizations.
After the death of her husband, Francis, in 1962, Elsie moved to Freeport, Illinois, and worked at Micro Switch until her retirement in 1974. At that time, she moved to St. Ansgar.
She was an avid reader, a member of the Federated Women's Club, the Martha Circle and several bridge clubs. Elsie's life was defined as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Elsie entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in June of 1995. Her last years were over-shadowed by the pain of osteoporosis and multiple myeloma.
Elsie will be missed by daughter, Marlene Haibeck Vorthmann and her husband, Everett, of Freeport, Illinois, and daughter, Francene Haibeck Zosulis and her husband, Aivars, of St. Ansgar; as well as grandchildren, Dawn Vorthmann Patton and her husband, Bruce, of Pensacola, Florida; Scott Vorthmann of Memphis, Tenn.; Layne Vorthmann Lovett and her husband, Mark, of Columbus, Ohio; Kari Zosulis Hemann and her husband, Tim, of Lake Summersett, Ill.; and Lori Zosulis of Virginia Beach, Va. She will also be missed by two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Tori Patton; three sisters, Ethel Robinson, Esther Houston, Claire Dray; and one brother, Harry Dettloff, all of Woodland, Wash.
