Clara "Kitty" Haugen

Funeral services for Clara E. "Kitty" Haugen of Rapid City, South Dakota, who died Thursday, April 6, 1995, were held Monday, April 10 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Dr. Leroy Flagstad and Rev. Don Brendtro officiating.

Clara was born July 3, 1906 in St. Ansgar to Charles E. and Amelia (Johnson) Kittleson. She graduated from the Northwestern hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1928. She was married to Maurice S. Haugen June 24, 1931 at Northfield, Minnesota. They lived in Glenwood, Minnesota for a short time, moving to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1935.

Kitty was active in the Trinity Lutheran Chruch, serving with the altar guild, co-organizer for the church annual lutefisk dinner each year, active with the YMCA and YWCA and USO during WWII and the Korean War., served on the board for Boy and Girl Scouts. She taught Red Cross training programs during World War II and worked with refugee families.

Clara is survived by a son, Robert S. Haugen and wife Cathy of Engelwood, Colorado; a daughter Mavis Fossum and husband Merle of Burnsville, Minnesota; a sister, Laura Lund and husband Andy of Sun Lakes, Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Lola Kittleson and Elvira Kittleson of St. Ansgar, and Beatrice Kulseth, Glenwood, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice, and brothers, Julius and Carl Kittleson.

Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.
