Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude M. Halvorson, 90, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday evening, December 26 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center were held Wednesday, December 29 at the Schroeder & Dunn Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Wittern, pastor of the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, officiating.
Gertrude Mercedes Sheehan was born November 10, 1886 in Osage, the daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Ellen Sheehan. She was a granddaughter of Daniel Sheehan, a pioneer settler of Mitchell county. After graduating from Osage high school she attended Iowa State University, Ames. For 10 years she taught speech in schools for the deaf in Council Bluffs, Grand Rapids, Mich. And Jacksonville, Ill.
Her marriage to Albert Halvorson took place June 14, 1916 and they resided in Clear Lake before moving to St. Ansgar in 1921. Mr. Halvorson was a banker in Clear Lake and St. Ansgar.
Mrs. Halvorson is survived by four children: John Albert of Austin, Minn.; Mrs. Edward (Laura) Jobe of Franklin Lakes, N.J.; Donal Richard of St. Ansgar; Mrs. John (Louise) Tellefson of Culver City, Calif.; also seven grandchildren: War and Bruce Halvorson, Gertrude Jobe, Timothy Halvorson, Cathleen Woolm and Laura and Michael Tellefson; also three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar City cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of the committal services.
