Martin Moe 1867-1930
Our friend and brother, Martin Moe, was born in the Thideman Docken cabin in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on March 15th, 1867 to Ole Olsen Christiansmoen and Guri Olsdatter Maafaa Grov. In 1867, the family purchased a farm nearly a mile east of the Docken farm where they established their home and began to use the surname of Moe. Martin continued to live on the parental homestead until the time of his death.
The departed brother was brought up in the Lutheran faith and has always been an interested, active, and exemplary member of the local congregation.
He has also been an exceptionally strong and industrious man until about twelve years ago when his health commenced to fail. During these many years of trial, he has borne his sufferings with patience, courage, and hope.
Last Thursday morning, March 27th, he was taken suddenly and seriously ill with heart trouble, and within a few hours the unexpected end came. He was 63 years old.
The following near relatives survive him: his brother George Moe, and his sisters, Mrs. Martin (Gunhild) Field and Miss Marie Moe, as well as several nieces and nephews, all of this community. All these dear ones join in testifying that he had been an exceptionally kind, friendly, considerate, and helpful brother, who always showed interest in the welfare of his fellow men.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the Rock Creek Lutheran church, March 30th at 1:30 p.m. The large attendance, the floral offerings, and the money given to missions showed the high esteem in which the departed was held in the community. Interment was made in the Rock Creek cemetery.
