Clifford McCook Found Dead in Riceville Home
Riceville-Clifford McCook, 80, was found dead late Friday in his apartment in the business district here, where he lived alone.
The Robert Morris family, living in the same apartment building noticed that his papers had accumlated by his door. They notified the night marshall, Howard Wyatt, who with Elmo Clapp, street commissioner, went to investigate.
The door was unlocked and the body was sitting in a chair. He had shot himself through the head with a 12 gauge shotgun. Howard County Sheriff Percy Haven and County Coroner N. A. Bradley said he had been dead approximately three days.
Surviving are his ex-wife, Mrs. Minne McCook, Waterloo; a daughter, Mrs. Al (Evelyn) Ney, Waterloo and four grandchildren
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Riceville Funeral Home with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.
