Funeral services for Elmer (Pat) Frederick Julius Steinberg, 87, who died Monday, October 11, 1993, were held Friday, October 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Reverence N.E. Betke officiating.
Elmer Steinberg was born February 26, 1906 the son of William and Mary Beyer Steinberg in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith on April 1, 1906 by the Reverend John Becker with Frederick Steinberg and Julius Beyer as his sponsors. He was confirmed his baptismal vows on March 20, 1920 at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grafton, having been instructed by Reverend Carl Landdeck. He became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and remained a lifelong member and served the church as an officer, church secretary, member of the church council, member of various committees and was a circuit delegate for the St. Ansgar circuit to the Synod Convention in San Francisco, California in 1959.
He attended school in Mitchell County and Wartburg College of Waverly. He was united in marriage to Gertrude Baumgartner at St. Sebald Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point August 5, 1928 by the Reverend E. Melchert. This union was blessed with two daughters, Sylvia and Janice.
They made their home on a farm in Newburg Township where pat farmed for 27 years and also served as a postal employee for the United States Postal Service. He was employed by the Soil Conservation Service for 17 years and retired in 1970. He was a resident of the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, for the past three and one half years.
Elmer Steinberg was survived by his wife, Gertrude, St. Ansgar, two daughters, Mrs. David (Sylvia) Zea of La Porte City, and Mrs. Henry (Janice) Guse of Albert Lea, Minnesota; grandchildren: Becky Smith, Jeff Zea, Mary Reiter, Steve Zea, Kim Wyman, Jackie Case, and Matt Gude; great grandchildren: Jason Smith, Nicholas Brock, and Cheyne Reiter, and Zach and Mandy Wise.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar City Cemetery.
