Conduct Rites at Rock Creek For Ole Dahley

Native of Norway Dies Jan 29 At Daughter’s Home At Age of 89

Ole I. Dahley, 89, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adella Norby, in Nora Springs. He made his home with Mrs. Norby for the past ten years. Mr. Dahley had been in failing health for the past year due to his advanced age, and had been gravely ill for a week prior to his death.

He was born in Hardanger, Norway on June 12, 1860 and came to the United States with his parents, Iver and Elizabeth Dahley in 1866, when he was six years old. They settled in Decorah and later moved to Cedar township, Mitchell county, where he married Ellen R. Shoger on December 25, 1886.

Four children were born to the couple, one of whom, the youngest daughter, Cora, died in infancy. The other three children survive. They are Ira Dahley of Los Angeles, Mrs. Norby and Elmer Dahley of Nora Springs. In addition to the infant daughter, his wife, five step-children, two brothers and two sisters preceded Mr. Dahley in death. The survivors also include 13 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, as well as, four nieces and a nephew.

Mr. and Mrs. Dahley resided in Cedar township until May 1912 when they moved to Nora Springs.

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 1, at the Rock Creek Lutheran church at Meroa, where Mr. Dahley was confirmed and of which he had been a life long member. The pastor, the Rev. S.O. Sorlien, had charge of the rites. Internment was in Rock Creek cemetery.

Acting pall bearers were six great grandsons – James Shoger, Lynn Shoger, Marvin Shoger, Stanley Shoger, and Verle McKee. Honorary pall bearers were James Shoger, Kinley and Stanley Klemesrud, Sidney and Donald Norby and Erling Dahley.

The Rev. Mrs. Sorlien, Vernon Larson, Kalmer Klemesrud and Ernest Ryner sang three hymns – “One Sweetly Solemn Thought”, “Jeg Ved Mig En Sovn”, and “Asleep in Jesus”. Mrs. Invald Sponheim and Mrs. Kalmer Klemesrud were the members of the flower committee.
