Mrs. Johnson was born Susie May Thompson on May 20, 1881 near Genoa, Illinois. Susie Thompson and Chauncey Johnson were neighbors on farms at Genoa, 8 miles south of Sycamore, Illinois and were united in marriage there August 16, 1900. To this union one daughter was born, Eva May. They also raised Earl Lettow, a step-grandson of Mr. Johnson’s by a former marriage, whom they took into their home at the age of 8.
They moved to the Riceville area in the fall of 1903.
Mr., Johnson, a Civil War veteran passed away May 2, 1932. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Civil War Auxiliary, which boasts a membership of only a few.
Mrs. Johnson has lived alone since - doing her own business and caring for herself with wisdom, knowledge and clearness of mind even at an advanced age, that astounded all who knew her.
She passed away Wednesday, February 3, at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage, at the age of 89. She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter Eva and husband George A. King of Austin, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; Earl Lettow, wife and family of Kalamazoo, Michigan and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6 at the 1st Baptist Church of Riceville with the Reverend Charles Kirtley officiating. Pianist was Mrs. Roy Stark while soloist was Mrs. Duane Lockie. Casket bearers included Kenneth Bell, Bradley King, Cecil King, Dean Murphy, Thomas and Albert Weber, Jr. Usher was Louis Bird.
Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville with the Chisholm Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

#2:FUNERAL HELD FOR SUSIE JOHNSON, 89
Funeral services were held Saturday for Mrs. Susie Johnson, 89, who died on February 3, 1971 at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage. She had been a resident at the Good Samaritan Nusring Center in St. Ansgar for several months, and was one of the last surviving members of the Civil War Auxiliary.
Rev. C. Kirtley, pastor, was in charge of the services at the Baptist church in Riceville, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Chisholm Funeral Home made the arrangements.
Susie May Thompson was born on May 20, 1881, at Genoa, Illinois, the daughter of John and Anna May Thompson. She married Chauncy Johnson. He was a Civil War Veteran and died in 1932.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George King (Eva May) of Austin, a step-grandson, Earl Lettow of Kalamazoo, Michigan, who she reared; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, her parents, four brothers, two sisters and one grandchild preceded her in death.
