BORN IN OSAGE, IOWA#1:
HAYWARD, MINNESOTA -- Funeral services for Virgil L. Glassel, 61, of Hayward, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Hayward Lutheran Church, Hayward, with the Rev. Scott Duffus officiating. Interment will be in the Hayward Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by area servicemen's clubs. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, 1415 N. Highway 13, Albert Lea, Minn., and one hour before services at the church.
Virgil died Monday (Nov. 27, 1995) at the Naeve Hospital.
Virgil Lee Glassel was born July 14, 1934 at Osage, Iowa, the son of Sylvin and Hazel (Perkins) Glassel. He graduated from high school in Carpenter, Iowa. After graduation, he farmed in Iowa. Virgil entered the United States Army and served from 1957-1959.
On Dec. 6, 1959, he was united in marriage to Delores Helm at Northwood, Iowa. The couple farmed in Iowa until 1963, when they moved to Hayward, Minn.
The couple then moved to California, where they lived for nine and one-half years. They returned to Minnesota in 1976. Virgil worked as a feed manager for the Hayward Co-op, retiring in 1994. Virgil served as a fireman in Hayward, was a member of the Hayward Lutheran Church and the Eagle's. He enjoyed golf, camping, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Delores of Hayward; daughters, Debbie Kiser and her husband, James, of Houston, Texas, Carol and her husband, Terry Brandt of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Elaine and her husband, Alden Chamberline, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sandy and her husband, Ray Barber of Spring, Texas; one son, Dennis Glassel and his wife, Holly, of Albert Lea; 11 grandchildren, brothers, Ronald Glassel and his wife, Lola of Georgetown, Calif., and Robert Glassel and his wife, Virginia, of St. Ansgar; sisters, Sylvia Anderson of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Norma Ellis of Salem, Oregon; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Aaron Brandt.
