Vernon Kluender

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA -- Vernon Kluender, 76, of Fresno, formerly of the Osage, Iowa, area, died Friday (Dec. 29, 1995) in Fresno.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Osage, Iowa, with Vicar Paul Mundinger officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa, and one hour prior to service time Monday at the church.

Vernon was born Nov. 2, 1919, in rural O'Brien County, Iowa. He was the sixth son of Albert and Louise (Mueller) Kluender.

He attended schools in Iowa. During the mid-1930s, he enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Eldora, Iowa. On Nov. 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Ann Eggena of Rockford, Iowa. For several years he was an employee of the Sears retail store in Waterloo, Iowa. In 1941, he returned to farming and lived in the Germantown, Aurelia, Rockford and Thornton, Iowa, areas and later farmed near Osage for 12 years. In 1964, Vernon and Ann moved to California.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Ann, of Fresno; two sons, Gary Kluender Sr. and Daryl Kluender, both of Osage, Iowa; three grand-children, Gary Kluender Jr., Osage, Iowa, and Vernon and Kathleen Kluender, both of Sheffield, Iowa; three brothers, Merl Kluender, Benzon, Ariz.; Al Kluender, Phoenix, Ariz., and Ray Kluender, Denison, Iowa; and four sisters-in-law, Vera and Verlie Kluender of Sioux City, Iowa, and Edna and June Kluender, Paullina Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers.
