McINTIRE, IOWA -- Earl VanDeWalker, 34, died Thursday at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McIntire Methodist Church. The Rev. O. Hoven and the Rev. R. Christiansen of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, will officiate. Burial will be in the McIntire Cemetery with Martz Funeral Home, LeRoy, in charge.

Earl VanDeWalker had been ill since 1957 when he suffered a heart attack. He underwent heart surgery at that time and in 1960 was to have another operation. The church and community members started a fund to help him with expenses for the surgery.

The second operation was found to be impossible. He has been in and out of hospitals since them.

The fund, which reached about $2,500, was used for hospital and medical expenses but was exhausted about a year ago. It was administered by the Rev. Mr. Hoven.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marlys Gunsallus of Osage; three children, Deborah, 9, Jana, 8, and Steven, 2.
