Capt. Jerome Joseph Smith, 30, died on October 2, 1966 in Vietnam.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, Riceville; two sisters, Mrs. Dean (Margaret) Conger and Mrs. Dale (Alice) Buttolph, Riceville; four brothers: William of Nashua, Edward and James, of Cedar Rapids, and Michael, of Oklahoma.

Funeral services will beheld Thursday at Riceville.

RICEVILLE, IOWA - Funeral services for Jerome Joseph Smith, 30, who was killed in Vietnam, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial in the Calvary Cemetery; rosary at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chisholm Funeral Home.

Survivors are his parents. Mr. and Mrs. William Smith of Riceville; two sisters: Mrs. Dean Conger and Mrs. Dale Buttolth, both of Riceville; four brothers: William of Nashua; Edward and James, both of Cedar Rapids; Michael of Altus, Oklahoma.

Riceville Man Is
Missing in Action

RICEVILLE, IOWA — Capt. Jerome Smith, 3rd, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith of Riceville, has been declared missing in action in Vietnam.

His plane failed to arrive at its destination Sunday, October 2, which was Smith's 30th birthday.

His parents were advised Monday evening by the government that he was missing.

HOME FOR CHRISTMAS—Lt. Jerome Smith, Chennault A.F.B., La,; and A.2.c. Michael Smith, Altus A.F.B., Okla., sons of Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, Riceville, have arrived to spend their holiday leave's at the home of their parents. Lt. Smith was graduated from Riceville High School in 1954 and received his wings as a jet pilot in 1959 after training as an aviation cadet. Michael Smith, also a graduate of Riceville High School, enlisted in the Air Force in 1960.
