PFC. H0WARD B. ELLISON
DIES OF BATTLE WOUNDS
IN ITALY

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ellison, who live near Stacyville, were notified Monday that their son, Pfc. Howard B. Ellison, had died of wounds in a hospital in Italy. This notice followed a telegram received last Friday saying that he was seriously wounded in action.

Private Ellison was wounded September 17. He evidently was taken to the hospital and died there soon after. His parents believe the hospital was in the vicinity of Rome.

Charles was the first farm boy to be inducted from Liberty Township. He left Osage for Camp Claibourne, LA, in April, 1941. He was trained as a machine gunner and sailed for Ireland with the 34h Division, February 20, 1942. He had been through the campaigns with that famous division of the American 5th Army.

The young soldier had been in battle for many experiences. His last letters home were from near Rome. He had not been home for nearly three years.

In the same battle in which Howard was wounded, one of his close home friends, Wilfred Giles, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Giles of Stacyville, was also wounded. He was carried to a first aid station and given first aid by Harold Adams, another Stacyville boy.

Howard was born April 19, 1918, near Fulton, Missouri, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ellison. He moved with his parents to their present home 16 years ago.

He was graduated from the Little Cedar High School with the class of 1938, and helped his father on the home farm until he entered the service.

He is survived by his parents and three brothers: Gordon of Osage, who works at Manly; Forrest, who farms near Little Cedar, and Marvin, who was inducted in service a few months ago.

A memorial service will be held at Little Cedar at some future date.
