Joseph S. Jordahl
(St. Ansgar Enterprise, St. Ansgar, Iowa; 17 AUG 1978 )
Funeral services for Joseph S. Jordahl, 65, of St. Ansgar, who died Friday, August 11, were held Monday, August 14 at First Lutheran church here with the Rev. Stephen Engelstad officiating.
Joseph Jordahl was born in Blue Earth, Minn. October 21, 1912, the son of Hans and Bessie Jordahl. He lived there until he entered college and eventually went into teaching.
He married Margaret Olson of Rake, April 21, 1935; and a son, Jerry, was born to them. Mr. Jordahl taught and coached in various sports at public schools in Rake, Fonda and Mitchell before coming to St. Ansgar in 1940 where he continued to coach and teach until his retirement in 1974.
Mr. Jordahl enjoyed teaching and coaching young people, and for most of his life was an avid fisherman and hunter. In later years he took up the game of golf which he thoroughly enjoyed until his health failed, and after surgery in 1977 he never completely recovered. Joe always remembered his former students and usually had some interesting anecdotes to relate concerning them at class reunions.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Jerry and his wife, Gloria; two grandchildren, Kari and Erik, all of St. Ansgar; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Burke of La Mesa, Calif. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Burial was in First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Engelstad in charge of the committal services.
