Last Rites for Charlotte Kittleson Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Charlotte Kittleson, 16, who died at Mercy Hospital in Mason City Monday, March 8, 1954, were held Wednesday March 10, at the First Lutheran Church with the Reverend O. A. Langehough officiating.
Charlotte Marie Kittleson was born November 14, 1937, in St. Ansgar, the daughter of Floyd and Caroline Feldt Kittleson. She was baptized January 6, 1938 by the Reverend O.A. Langehough and was also confirmed by him at the First Lutheran Church May 27, 1951. Charlotte had been very eager and enthusiastic in her church work. She had been a Sunday school teacher since her confirmation and held offices in the Luther League.
Charlotte was a junior at the St. Ansgar High School, was very active in school affairs. She was secretary of her class, took part in Dramalog, FHA, Pep Club, was a first team cheerleader, a member of the band and sang in various vocal groups. She will also be remembered for her active participation in the local and county 4-H, serving as county vice-president last year.
She was accidentally wounded by a 22 caliber rifle at the home of her parents east of town Monday, March 1. Charlotte was rushed to Mercy Hospital in Mason City for emergency surgery and seemed to be improving steadily until Sunday afternoon when she suddenly became worse and passed away Monday, March 8, at 3:30 A.M.
Her family is comforted in the knowledge of Charlotte’s faith, for she received Holy Communion and was reciting the Lord’s Prayer when she sank into unconsciousness.
Charlotte Kittleson was preceded in death by three brothers, two infant brothers and Leroy.
She is survived by her parents, five brothers’ Galen, Marlin, Norman, Claire and James; three sisters, Marjorie,9 (Mrs. Dale Johnson), Carol (Mrs. Wayne Jones) and Virgene; also one niece and four nephews.
John Duenow, a senior at St. Ansgar High School, sang a number during the funeral service. Bearers were six of her classmates, David Hendrickson, Fred Langrock, Jr., Galen Leraaen, Galen Schultz, Paul Vandermyde and John Wolters.
Interment was in the First Lutheran Cemetery with Reverend Langhough in charge of the committal services.

St. Ansgar Farm Girl Dies Of Bullet Wound
MASON CITY, IOWA - Charlotte Kittleson, a young St. Ansgar farm girl, died at a hospital here Sunday of a rifle bullet wound which authorities said was self-inflicted.
Police said the shooting occured at the girl's farm home about a week ago while she was alone. After she had been wounded she called relatives. Miss Kittleson was unconscious until her death and was unable to tell officials what happened.
NOTE: The newspaper article says she died on Sunday, but her headstone said she died on March 8th, which was a Monday.
