NOTE: Dean was band instructor at St. Ansgar High School in the 1960's. We know he was there from 1961 to 1963, but may have been there additional years also.

Dean B. Torkelson Dean B. Torkelson, 74, of Lisle, Illinois, and formerly of Warrenville, Illinois, was at rest Sunday, March 12, 2006, at Westbury Care Center in Lisle. He was born on September 5, 1931, in Elgin, Iowa, the son of the late Clarence and Adelia Torkelson.Dean was a member and sanctuary choir member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Naperville since 1995. He was retired from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, as the director of career services in 1994, after eight years of service, and was a resident there from 1986 to 1995. Along with being a member of the First Lutheran Church of Decorah, he was a former resident of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, from 1969 to 1986, where he was the chairman of the music department from 1969 to 1986 in the Manitowoc Public School System and was a member of First Lutheran Church of Manitowoc. Prior to moving to Manitowoc, he taught music for 13 years in the Iowa High School System. He was a graduate of Northern Colorado University with a master's of art in music education, class of 1959. He was a graduate of Luther College with a bachelor of arts degree in music education, class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, serving in the counterintelligence CORE in Oakland, California, from 1954 to 1956.
Survivors include his wife, Carol, whom he married in 1956; his children, Erik (Tara) Torkelson of New Lenox, Kristi (Charles Twichell) Torkelson of Oak Park and Greg (Elizabeth Furreboe) Torkelson of Des Plaines; his grandchildren, Olin, Lars, Monroe and Jackson Torkelson, Evan and Allegra Twichell; his brothers, Otis Torkelson of Postville, Iowa, and Ivan (Eleanor) Torkelson of Elgin, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Gayle Torkelson.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 15 S. Washington St., Naperville. Interment will follow at Naperville Cemetery, Naperville.
