LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - Daniel Paul Meirick, 60, of Las Vegas, died suddenly of a heart attack at 1:56 p.m. on Tuesday (May 19, 2009).

Arrangements are being made at Bunker Mortuary, in Las Vegas. Dan will be cremated and buried with. military rites at Veteran's Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.

Dan was born on Oct. 4, 1948, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City to Paul and Gertie Meirick of New Haven, Iowa. He attended St. Mary's School in New Haven and graduated from Marion High School in Stacyville.

Dan attended Loras College. He joined the United States Air Force, serving his country in the USAF from 1968 through 1991. Dan's military duty included assignments in Vietnam, Italy, Germany, Cambodia, England, Thailand and Las Vegas. Following retirement from the Air Force, Dan made his home in Las Vegas and worked at the Nellis AFB Golf Course in North Las Vegas.

Surviving are Dan's sister, Ann (Pat) O'Brien, of Dubuque, Iowa, and brothers Bill (Ann) Meirick of Protivin, Iowa, and Dick (Ginger) Meirick of New Haven, Iowa; and 18 nieces and nephews.

Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Gertrude (Mary) Meirick; his father, Paul Meirick; and his niece, Kathy Meirick.

A memorial service will be held in New Haven at a later date.
