Lena E. (Nelson) Tyrrell was born September 25, 1889 in the Spring Valley area of Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Danish immigrant parents Frank and Louisa (Quitzau) Nelson. She was baptized at her home, and confirmed in the Mona Lutheran church, Mona, Iowa in 1903.
On October 21, 1908 she was married to George M. Johnson (Nesset). They operated the Johnson-Nesset farm in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa until they moved to a farm near Bergen, North Dakota about 1916.
Upon the death of her husband in 1917, Lena returned to Iowa with her two small children. They lived with her brother, Carl Nelson, and his family, and joined in the operation of the Nelson family farm North of St. Ansgar, Iowa.
On September 10, 1941, Lena married attorney Willard [J.] Tyrrell and moved to Osage, Iowa, where she lived until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in August 1982. Her husband, Willard, died in April 1964. Lena passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar on November 25, 1987 at the age of 98 years.
Lena is survived by one son, Dr. Naurice M. Nesset and his wife, Thelma, of Northfield, Minnesota; one daughter, Doris (Nesset) Waldeland and husband, Olaf, of Bloomington, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; three stepchildren: Mrs. Harriet (Tyrrell) Oster of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Winifred (Tyrrell) Clark and her husband, Donald, of Osage, Iowa; Mr. Scott Tyrrell and his wife, Olive, of Tucson, Arizona; nine step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Services Held December 1
A First Lutheran ChurchFuneral services for Lena E. Tyrell, who died November 25 [1987] at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held Tuesday, December 1 at the First Lutheran Church here with the Revenend Thomas Hughes officiating.
Lena E. (Nelson) Tyrell was born September 26, 1889 in the Spring Valley area of Mitchell County, the daughter of Danish immigrant parents, Frank and Luisa (Wuitzau) Nelson.
October 21, 1908, she was married to George M. Johnson (Nesset). They operated the Johnson-Nesset farm in Otranto Township, Mitchell County, until they moved to a Bergen, N.D. farm about 1916. Upon the accidental death of her husband, Lena and two children returned to work with her brother, Carl and family on the Nelson farm north of St. Ansgar.
When Lena's two children enrolled at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, she made a home for them there while working at Carleton College, Northfield, MN. An injury suffered by her mother made it necessary to return to St. Ansgar a year later.
In September, 1941, Lena married attorney Willard Tyrell and moved to Osage where she lived until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in August, 1982. He husband, Willard died in April of 1964.
Lena was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters.
Lena is survived by one son, Dr. Naurice Nesset and wife, Thelma of Northfield, Minnesota; one daughter, Doris (Nesset) Waldeland and husband Olaf of Bloomington, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step children, Mrs. Harriett Ostor of Los Angeles, California, Mrs. Winifred Clark of Osage, Scott Tyrell of Tucson, Arizona; 10 step children and several step great grandchildren' many nieces and nephews.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
