BORN NEAR OSAGEMASON CITY, IOWA — Doris Mae Glassel, 72, of 142 Parkridge Drive, Mason City, formerly of Plymouth, died Tuesday (April 19, 2005) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. Following the visitation and according to her wishes her body will be cremated. Family will also greet friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial services.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Grafton Cemetery.
Doris Mae Glassel was born on Oct. 15, 1932, in rural Mitchell County near Osage, the daughter of August and Helen (Eidness) Feldt. She attended grade school near Osage and graduated from Osage High School in 1950. After completing her schooling, she worked as a secretary for the Gage Co. in Mason City.
She was united in marriage to Rufus Glassel on March 10, 1956, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, and to this union three daughters were born. Doris loved and enjoyed raising her family and after her children were grown she began working at the Jones Piano House as an organ teacher for nine years.
She enjoyed baking, especially pies, and growing flowers, knitting, painting and loved to please people; but her great love and enjoyment was her husband, family, and grandchildren.
She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the church circle in Grafton.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Rufus J. Glassel of Mason City; three daughters: Sharon Trousdale and her husband, Bill, of rural Mason City, Patti Rustad and her husband, Duane, of Grafton, and Teri Sorenson and her husband, Mike, of Plymouth; 10 grandchildren: Cory, Kyle and Ryan Trousdale, Aaron, Megan, Taylor and Klay Rustad, Kayla, Katie and Brett Sorenson; two great-grandchildren: Trevor and Serena Trousdale; one sister, Delores Hoffman and her husband, Merle, of Toeterville; one brother, Bill Feldt and his wife, Janice, of Des Moines, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Russ Feldt; two sisters: Arlene Smith and Norma Jean Miller; nephew, Joel Smith, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Loretta Hackbart.
The family of Doris Mae Glassel has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.
