Lloyd Andrew Hansen [1910-1992]

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Funeral services for Lloyd A. Hansen, 81, who died Monday, March 2 1992, were held Thursday, March 5 at Immanuel Lutheran Church here with Rev. Norman Betke officiating.

Lloyd Andrew Hansen, son of Andrew Morris Hansen and his wife Maud Lillian Brown Hansen, was born June 19, 1910 at Otranto Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He attended Otranto schools and graduated from Otranto High School in the class of 1928.

As a young man he came to St. Ansgar and worked as a garage mechanic for Schultz and Tuberty, having been schooled as a mechanic at the General Motors School at Des Moines. He was employed later by Irving Olson of Osage who took over the Chevrolet agency. When Mr. Olson quit business Lloyd worked for Halvorson and Koball, C.P. Golberg and Arthur L. Dieterich.

He married Wilma Beyer on June 15, 1932 at Albert Lea, Minn. with the Rev. Sorenson officiating. They started their married life at Carpenter and were blessed with two children, a daughter, Gloria and a son, Richard. At Carpenter Lloyd operated a garage business for two years and then worked for Feldt and Dreher Grain Co. In 1937 they moved to St. Ansgar when the Feldts took over the Dodge car agency. He was engaged in trucking and involved with automobiles and traveled all his life.

He started the first school bus service in the area in 1940 with three busses in operation until the school board decided to own their own busses. He then went into the charter bus business, transporting workers to the Oliver plant in Charles City during the war years. He had a number of men working for him rebuilding wrecked cars and driving busses. When the Oliver plant closed he sold his business and worked for Hiway 56 transit of Austin, Minnesota for eight years.

They sold out to Ace transportation and he worked and drove for them for five years. He then was hired by Scenic Hawkeye Stages to manage a terminal at Mason City as a manager and driver for 20 years and had traveled one million, 78 thousand charter bus miles, driving from coast to coast.

Lloyd served as a member of the St. Ansgar Fire Department for 17 years. He became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church here by Holy Baptism, March 2, 1933 having been instructed by the Rev. Paul Brammer and remained a lifelong member of the church.

As he had spent most of his adult life behind the wheel driving, so death came from a heart attack while he and Wilma were travelling to Osage March 2.

Mr. Hansen is survived by his wife, Wilma; Mrs. Jerry (Gloria) Jordahl, St. Ansgar; son, Richard of LaHabra, CA; 4 grandchildren; Kari Fomon of Coralville; Erik Jordahl, Iowa City, Dana Schauster, Anaheim, CA, Mark Hansen, Anaheim CA; three step grandchildren, Karen, Tom and Christina Jeanneret of LaHabra, CA; three great grandchildren, Joshua Fomon, Coralville, Michael and Christopher Hansen, Anaheim, CA; one sister, Edna Edmonds of Ft. Meyers, Florida, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Gladys Dunn and Viola Johnson.

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Schroeder and Sites, St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements.
