OSAGE, IOWA — Ellen Genevieve Schrage, 98, of Osage, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday (March 2, 2005) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Ellen was born June 20, 1906, in Floyd County to Matt and Catherine Frascht. She graduated from Charles City High School and teacher's training at UNI. After graduation, she taught school in a one-room country school near her home.

Ellen married Chriss Schrage on Jan. 12, 1929, in Roseville, Iowa. To this union six children were born. Chriss and Ellen farmed for 47 years until Chriss passed away in 1976. She was active in 4-H and her children's school projects. Ellen loved to crochet, making quilts and knitting mittens and hats for everyone who needed them.

She was active at the senior citizen center after she moved to Osage in 1976. She lived in Osage until she entered the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in 1998.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.

Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Eugene Schrage of McIntire; Kathleen (Bill) Cohn of Mission, Texas; Maria Diggle of San Bernardino, Calif.; Pat (Frank) Kraft of Big Fork, Mont.; Leon (Carol) Schrage of Iowa City; Veronica (Dean) Adams of Stacyville; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chriss; her parents; five brothers, Leo, Bernard, Joseph, Louis, and Bert Frascht; one sister, Marie Kaye; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Elliott.
