OSAGE,IOWA — Irene Margaret Dunlay Weber, 98, of Osage, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 2004) at Faith Home in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Riceville.
Visitation is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a 4:30 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.
Irene was born May 14, 1906, at the family farm at Bailey, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Jordan) Dunlay. She graduated from McIntire High School in 1924 and from the Parisian School of Beauty Culture in Minneapolis in 1925. After graduating she had a beauty shop for two years at Moshers Dry Goods in Riceville before moving to Chicago.
Irene married Henry Lavene (Venie) Weber in Chicago on April 9, 1928. During World Ware II she and Venie worked at Lockheed in Pasadena, Calif., until the end of the war. They then returned to Iowa and purchased the general store in New Haven and called it “Meyer & Weber General & Feed Store,” with Irene’s sister, Rose, and her husband, Melvin Meyer, in 1946.
They ran the feed store until 1981, when they sold it and moved to Osage upon their etirement.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Irene is survived by a sister, Rose Meyer, of Osage; a granddaughter, Debbie Milot (Michael) of Longmont, Colo.; a grandson, Jonathan Enabnit (Sharon) of Ventura, Calif.; three great-grandchildren: James Egger (Eileen) of Longmont, Colo., Juliann Horan (Neil) of Seattle, Wash., and Nicole D’Alessandro of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a son-in-law, Keith Keim, of Cedar Rapids; three nephews: William Becvar of Decorah, James Dunlay of St. Paul, Minn., and Dennis Dunlay of Perkins, Okla.
She was preceded by her husband Venie; daughter, Beverly Keim; grandson Jeremiah Iowa; three sisters: Ellen Becvar, Kathryn Dunlay, and Mary Dunlay; a brother, Robert Dunlay; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Meyer and George Becvar; and her parents.
